In Diablo 4's PTR, Curious Addition favors more purchases with a possible extra item, while Premium Purveyor costs more for higher Ancestral odds. Neither outcome is guaranteed, and the interface may change between builds. You can also explore Diablo 4 Items when planning gear for your character.

How the Diablo 4 Purveyor choices work

Curious Addition and Premium Purveyor are distinct choices within the Purveyor interface, alongside the existing purchase path. Both use Obols to roll for equipment.

Curious Addition offers a chance at a second item on an eligible purchase. Premium concentrates more Obols into one purchase with higher Ancestral odds.

The described features belong to a PTR build, not necessarily the live game. Check the displayed entry names, prices, and tooltips before making a decision.

Diablo 4 Curious Addition and Premium comparison

Compare the choices by cost, number of purchases, and the kind of result your build needs.

Two for OneSecond-item chance up to 25%
Premium priceThree times the Curious price
Premium rewardHigher Ancestral oddsChoose Curious Addition when several slots need attention and more rolls are useful. Consider Premium when an Ancestral upgrade is the priority.

Higher odds aren't a promise of an Ancestral item, and a possible extra drop doesn't guarantee an upgrade. Compare the actual prices for your chosen slot before spending.

Seven decisions for spending Obols

These checks turn the two options into a practical plan without treating a short run of random results as proof of either path's value.

1 Confirm the Purveyor entry

Open the Purveyor interface and read each entry's name before selecting equipment. Curious Addition is not simply another name for Premium.

Check the description as well as the label, since a PTR build can change the interface. Follow the displayed text rather than relying on a fixed position.

Keep the ordinary Purveyor path distinct from both choices when recording results. That makes it easier to identify which purchase produced each item.

2 Read the second-item chance

Two for One can provide a second item from an eligible Curious Addition purchase. The stated 25% is an upper limit, not a guaranteed chance on every purchase.

At a 25% chance, four independent purchases would yield one extra item on average. That average isn't a promise: you could receive none or several.

Check the displayed chance and inspect the purchase result before buying again. A purchase without an extra item has nevertheless used its Obols.

3 Set a Premium reserve

Premium's listed cost is three times the comparable Curious Addition price. Set aside that amount before starting a volume-focused batch.

For example, compare three Curious purchases with one Premium purchase for the same slot when the displayed prices support that ratio.

If you can't afford the Premium price after your Curious batch, earn more Obols before comparing the two. An unfinished comparison tells you little about Premium.

4 Pick equipment slots first

Choose two or three slots where your character has a clear need, such as better item power, a useful legendary aspect, or an Ancestral upgrade.

Helmets, chest armor, pants, and boots often offer defensive affixes. Weapons, gloves, and jewelry often contribute offensive affixes, although the actual item needs inspection.

Check the available slot list before committing currency. If your target isn't offered, keep the Obols for a purchase that can help your build.

5 Judge items by usefulness

Count an item as useful only after checking its slot, relevant affixes, and relationship to your current equipment. A second drop is a chance, not automatically a gain.

Inspect both items when Two for One triggers, including the extra item's properties. Keep potential upgrades until you've reviewed the whole batch.

An Ancestral label is valuable for an Ancestral hunt, but it doesn't establish that an individual item suits your build. Compare its properties before replacing equipped gear.

6 Keep the test conditions comparable

Use the same character and target slot for both paths where possible. Record the Obols spent, purchases made, extra items, and Ancestral outcomes separately.

A single Premium result beside three Curious purchases is a useful budget example, not a reliable estimate of actual odds. Repeat with more currency if you want a clearer picture.

7 Recheck the PTR build

The supplied test window runs from October 27 through November 3, but its year isn't specified. Treat those dates as context for that test rather than a current schedule.

Note the build number and reread the vendor text after changes. If prices or descriptions differ from this comparison, use the values shown in your build.

How to run an Obols comparison

Start with enough Obols for a small Curious Addition batch and at least one Premium purchase. Copy a character with currency available if your PTR setup permits it.

Write down your starting amount, select a target slot, and make Curious purchases one at a time. Record each result and check for an extra item.

Stop the Curious batch while your Premium reserve remains intact. Then buy the comparable Premium slot and record its rarity and Ancestral status.

When a slot is unavailable or the displayed price differs, revise the comparison before spending. Earn Obols through normal PTR activity if the remaining amount won't cover the planned purchase.

When to adjust your Purveyor plan

The main mistake is spending the entire reserve before checking the Premium price. That prevents a comparison on the same budget.

Another warning sign is counting every drop as progress despite needing only one slot. Extra equipment has limited value when its properties don't address your character's needs.

The volume approach becomes less appealing when the offered slots don't match your targets. Premium also loses its intended purpose if your immediate priority isn't an Ancestral item.

Recheck slot availability, the displayed chance, and your remaining Obols whenever the build or your gear changes. Shift purchases toward the option that addresses the current need.

Benefits and limits of the two-path approach

Testing both entries suits players deciding how to spend scarce Obols, but the comparison trades currency and time for information rather than guaranteed upgrades.

Benefits

1. More attempts: Curious Addition stretches a comparable budget across more purchases when the listed price is lower.

2. Extra item chance: Two for One can add another item to an eligible Curious purchase at no extra stated price.

3. Ancestral focus: Premium offers higher odds when that item tier is your priority.

4. Targeted spending: Selecting a needed slot keeps your Obols directed at a practical upgrade.

5. Clear records: Separate results help you judge which path served your character during the test.

Limits

1. Variable results: A short batch can contain no extra items even when a chance is displayed.

2. Higher price: One Premium purchase can consume the currency for three comparable Curious purchases.

3. No tier guarantee: Premium can produce a lower-tier result despite its higher Ancestral odds.

4. Slot availability: An entry may not offer the equipment slot you need.

5. PTR changes: Prices or descriptions may differ between builds, so check the interface again.

Curious Addition suits a broad search across needed slots, while Premium is worth considering for an Ancestral-focused purchase. Keep enough Obols for the comparison and judge each result against your equipped gear. You can earn more currency through normal play and explore Diablo IV Items as another gear planning option.
